DJ JaySmoke wins Best Gospel DJ at Ghana DJ Awards 2017
BlogThe much aniticpated DJ Awards was held over the weekend with lots of entertainment and honors. The program which started late, due to technical glitches, was well attended and saw many performances by veteran Ghanaian DJ including Andy Dosty and Black.
But the reason why we are writing this article is because, for the first time, urban gospel has won. After being nominated for the first time in this awards, JaySmoke, urban gospel DJ was awarded the Best Gospel DJ of the year. This is a very well deserved award. If you don't know, JaySmoke has been at the very beginning of urban gospel in Ghana. He has pushed it far and wide and has been the pillar behind it. From starting the very first urban gospel radio show, to holding the biggest urban gospel concert in the country, JaySmoke is the go to person when it comes to urban gospel in Ghana. So it was no surprise when he was awarded this award. We caught up with him and asked him how he felt;
I am beyond words and I can't begin to express how I feel. I just want to say thank you to everyone who voted for me and most esp to all my day ones. Those who have had my back from the very beginning. This has been long coming and I thank God that it came when I am still in my prime. I would also like to use this opportunity to tell anyone out there who has been sleeping on urban gospel to wake up. We are coming and very soon we will be a force to reckon with. There's this saying that history always repeats itself and I see what's going on with urban gospel similar to what happened with hiplife. There was a time when hiplife was frown upon and the folks didn't want to hear anything about it. But today, they are the biggest artists in the country. Soon urban gospel will overtake all and you will have no choice but to give us an audience. So do yourself a favor, and join us now and be part of history. I want to use the opportunity to thank all these big shots who have supported us from the beginning; Herbert Mensah (Xfm Fame), Mr/Mrs Ayoade (Charterhouse), Mr Hammond (Charterhouse), Mr Swift (Peer Pressure), Mr Dennis Anderson (GFMM), Ps Abayomi (HCC), Proh Gideon Danso, Ps Stein and all EWC Pastors, Mrs Diane (Goldcasting), Rev Peter (Lighthouse), Slow (Footprint), VBuqs (VPJ Global), Ps Paul Amoako (KRIM), Ps Josh Obeng (CCC), Ps Dadson (ICGC), Eric Don Arthur, GhOne TV and all my loved ones, my day ones, my real ones. This was made possible because you believed in me. says JaySmoke
